Universal Bakes and Cafe
Vegan
Universal Bakes and Cafe is a fully vegan bakery and cafe in Setagaya Daita that opened in May 2020. Breads and pastries are baked three times a day (morning, midday, afternoon), so the selection stays fresh throughout service. The lineup includes melonpan, herb focaccia, cinnamon rolls, curry buns, and croissants, all made without eggs, dairy, or butter. The signature item is a French toast served in a cast iron skillet with vegan ice cream. The space is small, with roughly six seats split between two indoor tables and an outdoor area facing a quiet residential street. A drink order is required to sit.
Good to Know:
- Most baked goods fall between ¥300 and ¥550. The French toast is ¥990. A weekday morning set runs ¥1,550.
- Open Wednesday through Sunday, 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM (last order 5:30 PM). Closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Adjacent to Setagaya Daita Station.
- House made beverages include elderflower soda with rosemary.
- Sister location: Universal Bakes Nicome in Shimokitazawa (inside the Reload complex), focused on donuts. Also affiliated with Alaska Zwei, a vegan restaurant in Nakameguro.
