T's TanTan is a fully vegan ramen restaurant on the Keiyo Street level inside JR Tokyo Station. Everything on the menu is free of meat, fish, eggs, and dairy. The specialty is tantanmen, the Japanese adaptation of Sichuan dandanmian, built here on a creamy sesame and soy milk broth with soy meat instead of pork. It's a sister brand of T's Restaurant in Jiyugaoka, which has been doing plant based Japanese cooking since 2009. The Tokyo Station location is the most visited of the group, drawing a constant mix of commuters, shinkansen travelers, and international visitors. Other branches operate inside Ueno Station, Ikebukuro Station, and Narita Airport. The menu changes seasonally and varies slightly by location.

Good to Know:

  • The Golden Sesame Tantanmen is the signature: thick, creamy peanut and sesame broth with colorful vegetable toppings and soy meat. The White Sesame is milder, the Black Sesame has a sansho pepper kick. Most bowls land around ¥1,000 to ¥1,200.
  • Beyond ramen, the menu includes veggie gyoza, a mini soy chashu rice bowl, massaman curry with beans and mushrooms, and a multigrain rice bowl with gyoza, chashu, miso soy meat, and vegan cheese.
  • Konjac noodles can be swapped in for the standard wheat noodles.
  • Vegan cheese and vegan chashu are available as add on toppings.
  • The restaurant is inside the JR ticket gates. If you're already on JR, it's effortless. If coming from outside the station, enter via the Yaesu South exit and follow signs toward the Keiyo Line. If you're not traveling JR, you'll need a platform ticket (around ¥150) to get past the gates.
  • Tokyo Station is large and the Keiyo Street corridor is a bit of a walk from the main concourse. Budget an extra 10 to 15 minutes to find it the first time. The restaurant is near the escalators at the end of Keiyo Street.
  • Expect a wait of 10 to 20 minutes during peak hours. Turnover is fast. English menu available. Ordering via touch panel at some locations.
  • Open early morning through late evening (hours vary, roughly 7:00 to 22:00). One of the few quality vegan options open over New Year.
