THE NUTS EXCHANGE – Vegan Cafe Tokyo
Vegan
The Nuts Exchange is a fully vegan cafe tucked into the quiet residential stretch between Yoyogi Hachiman Station and Yoyogi Park. The whole menu is built around homemade macadamia nut milk, which shows up in the lattes, the baked goods, and the ice cream. Everything is also gluten free. The space is small and mostly takeout oriented, with a zero waste, minimal plastic approach. The food leans casual, covering egg muffin sandwiches, cheeseburgers, rice sets with rotating deli sides, and a counter of baked goods like brownies, tarts, and cookies.
Good to Know:
- The "eccmuffin" (egg muffin with plant sausage and yuba cheese) gets the most attention. The vegan egg in particular tends to catch people off guard.
- The macadamia nut milk coffee has a distinct, rich nuttiness. If you like soy milk lattes you'll probably be into it.
- Mille crepes are a weekend only item.
- Lunch rice sets come with two to three deli dishes of your choice for around ¥1,200. Most items fall in the ¥1,000 to ¥2,000 range.
- Closest station is Yoyogi Hachiman or Yoyogi Koen, both a short walk. It's a quieter, more residential area away from the Shibuya crowds.
- No restroom on site. Limited indoor seating, so plan for takeout if the few tables are full. Outdoor seating is available.
- Bilingual staff (English and Japanese). Closed Mondays. Also available on Uber Eats.
