te cor gentil
Te cor gentil is a fully vegan bakery in Azabu Juban that opened in October 2022. The name combines the French words terre (earth), corps (body), and gentil (gentle), and the mission is straightforward: plant based baked goods that are kind to the body and the planet without compromising on quality. Chef Yoshinori Aoyagi, who previously worked at Harajuku's Nansuka Pansuca and won an award at an Asian baking competition, creates around two dozen varieties of bread and pastries using no eggs, butter, or dairy. The range covers classic Japanese bakery staples (melon pan, anpan, curry buns, shio butter bread) alongside French style croissants with rotating fillings and pizza breads with a house made vegan cheese that actually melts. The shop is small, mostly takeout, with a bench out front for eating on the spot. Reviews consistently note surprise at the quality, with many people saying they would not have known the baked goods were vegan without being told.
Good to Know:
- The pistachio croissant is the most talked about item. The plain croissant is also strong, with flaky, non greasy layers. Other popular picks include the cheesy curry bun, custard cream brioche, cinnamon sugar doughnut, and the shio (salt) butter bread with aosa seaweed (¥360).
- The house made vegan cheese, used in pizza breads and savory croissants, gets specific praise for melting and tasting close to dairy cheese.
- Limited edition and seasonal items rotate frequently. The bakery also does special runs like holiday stollen and anniversary items. Checking Instagram before visiting is a good idea, as popular items sell out.
- Bread can be reserved through the "sacri" app to avoid missing specific items.
- No dedicated eat in space. There's a small bench outside and nearby parks work well for eating on the go.
- Not gluten free. Most items contain wheat. Not suitable for celiac.
- Three minute walk from Azabu Juban Station (Namboku Line / Oedo Line). Close to Roppongi and Tokyo Tower.
- Open 10:00 to 18:00. Popular items can sell out by early afternoon.
- Te cor gentil has also partnered with Universal Bakes to launch a second brand, Tokyo Vegan Bakes, which opened in Shimokitazawa's Reload complex in August 2025.
